Family Engagement at ASCEND

When families and schools grow together, students flourish.

At ASCEND, families are not just participants — they are partners, co-creators, and powerful advocates for their children’s education. We believe in shared leadership, open communication, and a deep commitment to building trust through community.

Whether you’re here to volunteer, lead, learn, or simply connect — there are many ways to be involved.

Together, we create the kind of school where confidence takes root and great futures begin.

Class Leaders

Each grade also has Class Leaders who work directly with teachers and families to:

  • Coordinate classroom activities and communication
  • Organize support for field trips or special events
  • Strengthen relationships between home and school

This is a great way to support your child’s classroom and stay in the loop!

Family Leadership Council (FLC)

Each classroom elects parent leaders to represent their grade level on our Family Leadership Council (FLC). This group meets monthly to:

  • Review schoolwide priorities
  • Provide input on key decisions
  • Lead communication with other families
  • Partner closely with school leadership

These elected parents also help plan family events, support communication, and champion schoolwide efforts.

EFC Family Leadership Council

Two ASCEND parents from our FLC are selected to represent our school on the Education for Change Network-Wide Family Leadership Council. In this role, they:

  • Meet monthly with leaders across the EFC network
  • Share feedback on family experience and school performance
  • Support equitable and consistent practices across all EFC schools

This is a powerful way to help shape policy and amplify family voice at the organizational level.
