Vision & Habits of Work and Learning

Our Vision

At ASCEND, we nurture a passion for learning and cultivate personal agency — so every student can discover who they are, what they need, and how to advocate for it.

Our community of students, families, and staff explores, learns, and grows together — through success and failure, joy and challenge. We believe diverse learners thrive when education engages the whole child — academically, emotionally, socially, and creatively.

Through arts-integration, expeditionary learning, personalization, and social-emotional support, we empower each other to forge our own paths and shape a school — and a future — that reflects the world we want.

In 2016, ASCEND’s students, families, and staff came together to reimagine the future of the school. That collaborative process shaped the vision we live today — a school where academic achievement, personal growth, and community voice come together.

This is a place where:

  • Students are seen, heard, and supported.
  • Families are true partners.
  • Learning is meaningful — and mirrors the world outside the classroom.
  • The arts and real-world projects are tools for deeper understanding.
  • Every child is prepared to lead with confidence.

More than a school. A ticket to the future.

Our Core Commitments: The ASCEND HOWLs

Habits of Work and Learning

These five habits are not just values we teach — they are commitments we live. They guide how we show up, support one another, and grow as a learning community.

  • Compassion – We care deeply for ourselves and others.
  • Perseverance – We push through challenges and keep going.
  • Craftsmanship – We take pride in our work and strive for excellence.
  • Responsibility – We own our actions and contribute to our community.
  • Curiosity – We ask questions, explore ideas, and seek to understand.

All students, staff, and families commit to upholding these habits as part of ASCEND’s shared culture. They reflect who we are — and who we’re becoming, together.

“Confidence built from the inside out.”
